Meet Maya. This little doll has an immeasurable zest for life unlike anyone I’ve ever seen. Truly. She is absolutely remarkable! When Maya was 14 months old, she was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia (A.L.L.) and has been putting up a strong fight against cancer. She’s been hospitalized numerous times and had many blood transfusions over the past year. But she doesn’t let that slow her down! She is full of joy, kindness, and sass. And she has totally captured my heart!
Maya’s mom, Tabatha, and I used to work together at Amedisys Hospice a few years ago. Tabatha is one of the hardest working women I know, and she is also one of the kindest, strongest, and compassionate people I’ve ever met. You may remember hearing about this family back in April from the news or the Wichita Eagle. This article will tell you a little more about their story.
Before I share a few more of my favorite pics of Maya, I’d like to encourage you and invite you to join me on TEAM MAYA in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s annual Light the Night fundraiser that will be held in Wichita on October 20th.
